Measuring guide

This guide explains how to measure up for your new composite door. The height and width measurements must be supplied in millimetres on the product page when ordering.

The door must be measured from the outside.

It is important to measure the gap between the bricks, and not the existing door or frame.

Measure both the height and width.

It is advised to measure in at least three different places, with a reasonable space between each measurement

Once you have the final height and width measurements, subtract 10mm from both.

So, if your width is 900mm, for example, you would then give the measurement as 890mm. This gives adequate space to fit the new door properly.

PLEASE NOTE:

Frame extenders and cills

Once you have your measurement you must also subtract the frame extender and/or the the cill, if you are having these extras.

For the frame extender subtract 15mm (from the height and/or width measurement depending on your requirements).

For the cill subtract 30mm.

See example under ‘Please remember’ heading

If you are in unsure, please get in touch.

Please remember:

  • All measurements must be supplied in millimetres (mm)
  • Take measurements from at least three different points
  • Measure from outside, in the brick to brick opening
  • Subtract 10mm from the width and height measurements
  • If you require a frame extender add 15mm onto the final measurement to the width, height or both if needed
  • If you are ordering a cill, you must add 150mm to the final height measurement

EXAMPLE:

Brick to brick height measurement 2100mm.

Brick to brick width measurement 900mm.

Subtract 10mm from both.

Final measurement would be 2090mm x 890mm, write this on the product page in the height and measurement boxes.

FRAME EXTENDERS AND CILL

If ordering a frame extender for the width, subtract 15mm.

If ordering a frame extender for height, subtract 15mm.

If ordering a cill, subtract 30mm.

Using the above example, if all extras were ordered the final measurements would be:

2100 – (10 + 15 + 30) = 2045mm for height

900 – (10 + 15) = 865mm for width

Width

The width should be measured brick to brick at three points – top, middle and bottom of the opening. The smallest of these measurements is taken as the width. Always deduct 10mm from the final width.

Height

The height should be measured brick to brick at three points – left, middle and right of the opening. The smallest of these measurements is taken as the height. Always deduct 10mm from the final height.

Side Panels

Please measure as above but also… the side panel width should be measured from the centre point of the frame between the door and the side panel to the outer edge of the side panel frame.

Top Light

Please measure as above but also… the top light depth should be measured from the centre point of the frame between the door and the top light to the top of the door frame. This will give you the transom drop for the top light.
